I am writing this review because actions in this book disturbed me very much. This book is suppose to be mainly about Christians. But the so called Christians in this book acted just like the unsaved characters. They went to bars, they drank wine and beer. They said curse words but yet asked God for help. When you accept Christ in to your heart, your actions, your speech, your thinking changes. You striving to be more like Christ than the worldly people. You set an example for others. I don't see that in this book. Needless to say, I am very disappointed in this writer.Product details

To Protect Serve Volume 1 Staci Stallings 9780615654300 Books Reviews
This is the first book by this author that I have read, and it will not be the last. The main theme is two vulnerable people who have made their goals and determined to be self-sufficient (in a sense.) No risks for them. Relationships hurt! So, when they meet, they resist. I loved how the author put the 'recommended' sexual tension into the story without the pair ending up in bed. Awesome. Very skillfully done. Loved it. Then came the 'curly one' - a situation which seemed to have no solution... but the answer came via an unexpected source.
All in all - a fantastic read. Wish I could give more stars.
Such a good story. It was a really hard read for me personally. My son is a police officer who one year ago lost his daughter, our precious granddaughter, unexpectly. Our grief is still very fresh...our loss still very painful. The struggle of faith, trust, hope, love, risk...we live. But Staci, you are right, love is worth the risk...every time.
Thank you for the honest way you dealt with the issues first responders and their families face.
This book left me with mixed feelings about it. I really liked Jeff's character, although I felt that the author overdid the shy part, always describing him as looking down, etc. I didn't like Lisa's character very much. From the start, she came across as bossy, cold, brusque, and critical, especially at work. She seemed to mellow a little during the story, but it was hard to shed the negative feelings I had about her at the start. I kept wondering why she didn't get some competent employees if they were always messing up. It kind of spoiled the story for me. I wasn't sure the main characters really fit each other, since he was so shy and she came across as brusque and demanding.
There were quite a few editing errors and words that weren't used properly, which is distracting to me. Examples are "eve of the roof" instead of "eave", "closer to the peek" instead of "peak", and "a cleave that would never heal" (cleave is a verb).
I did like that the language was fairly clean, and that there were no sexual situations. I will probably read the next book in the series, as I think this author shows promise.
To Protect & Serve by Staci Stallings - I am adding my pro vote for this book allow with all the other 754 who have reviewed this. I found this book on Bookbub and am so glad I did. The story is well written; the characters seem real. Jeff is a firefighter. Lisa owns her business which is growing creating the problems & pressures with such. I have to admit that, when I came across the bar scene, I was wondering just what kind of story I was entering. However, that is a testament to how realistic this story is. (It is clean, Christian romance. No worries here.) This book does demonstrate how two very different people can grow together and develop true love. I am someone who rarely cries but there is an incident which did cause me to cry a little. Overall, I loved this love story. And, I have found a new-to-me author to read.
Every book by Staci Stallings is worth the read. In my opinion she is second best only to Nora Roberts and this is debatable because Staci St. writes Christian Romances while Nora doesn't.
This book tells the story of an every day Christian hero - an ordinary guy who is very far from perfect or even accomplished but who - like all of us - can do the right things when necessary. The female personage is a broken but lovely woman.
Love, dedication, willingness to suffer and so on help those two to overcome all the difficulties and create a relationship. As in every book of Staci Stallings (as well in real life) God helped a bit )
I strongly recommend this book to every one who likes a good romance. It doesn't matter whether you are a believer or not. Staci Stalling do not preach and do not impose her beliefs.
This was my first time to read a book by this author, and probably my last. The writing itself was mediocre. I'm a huge fan of Dee Henderson's type of romantic suspense, and this was nowhere near the quality of writing. There were also many little errors throughout that made me wonder if the book was even edited. One small example; when Lisa drove the stickshit car and Jeff told her to go backwards through the gears as she came to a stop sign. In a car you just go into neutral and start from first gear again. There were little things like this frequently.
I also think to call this a Christian novel is stretching. The only veiled reference to God in the first several chapters was the cross Jeff wore. There was eventually a spiritual lesson, but no framework laid to make me think the characters would even care. Meanwhile, the characters are clubbing, dwelling on the attractiveness of one anothers' bodies, and even laying in bed together. While nothing happened, Christians should know better than to put themselves in such a situation.
Overall, I was not impressed with this book from either a Christian worldview frame of reference, the storyline or the quality of the writing. I downloaded it for free so I can't say I didn't get my money's worth, but I won't be reading other books by this author.
